Fashion & Textiles Day 3

Today we made some collage-based garment designs, which derived from the same art piece that we had to choose and print in A4 (and mine, if you forgot, was Daniel Conway's "Scarlet Wind"). These designs were all constructed from photocopies of my A6 response piece and cut and stuck onto my own drawn templates. I found it to be fun because it reiterates the sense that I get from "Scarlet Wind": fragile and vibrant.

Tomorrow we aim to create a final piece, based on our experiments and sticking to the same style. It should be fun, but all will be revealed tomorrow.

Fashion & Textiles Day 2: Dressing The Garments

After we had made everything for the garments, we all went round to each mannequin to try and see how we could arrange the work which wasn't ours. Mine is at the top, but below are what we did with other people's; the results were very fun, resulting in a vast variety of exotic designs and colourful compositions.

Fashion & Textiles Day 2

Today we had to bring in an A4 copy of our favourite art piece, and we made 6 "experiments" from them on A6 paper. The piece I chose was "Scarlet Wind" by Daniel Conway (http://danielconway.artworkfolio.com/gallery/317018#9), which I like for it's fragile composition and lavishing colour. The first A6 experiment I did mimics the umbrella, and I made it by wetting the paper, crumpling it, unfolding it, tearing it in some places and then colouring it with my Tomboy Manga Dual Brush pens.

The repeat pattern at the bottom was part of the painting that I had using a viewfinder, and this was part of the garment. I enjoyed much of the results I got out of this experimental day, although the fashion industry isn't something I really want to go into. This is because I'm far more interested in communicating narratives and ideas (i.e. Illustration/Animation).

Life Drawing

Today was really fun. We were all rubbish at the charcoal drawings of course, but like Angie said, if it feels like a regular drawing to you then you're doing something wrong.

Drawing In PhotoShop

Here is a rough breakdown of what I do with my drawings when they're taken into PhotoShop. You might think at first that going over the outlines again is time-consuming, but I think it gives the overall look of the work a much better quality.

Lens Based Media Last Day: Life Drawing

Today we did drawings of fellow students to be compiled together in one big animation. Illustration/Fantasy Art is what I really want to get into, so I found it fun trying to draw real-life people in my own way and style. I will aim to colour these in through PhotoShop CC once I get my essay and other gallery visits out of the way.

Lens Based Media Day 3: Tate Modern Exhibitions (Poetry & Dream, Making Traces and Energy & Process)

I had tremendous fun at the Tate Modern today. Much of the work that I saw was very interesting for its symbolism, surreal aspects and momentous structure. I will write about all my favourite pieces when coming round to doing the essay, but these are some of them anyway. They are (from top to bottom) Untitled (1979) by Jannis Kounellis, Celebes (1921) by Max Ernst, The Invisibles (1951) by Yves Tanguy, Hour Of The Traces (1930) by Alberto Giacometti, Cravings White (1988) by Lee Bul, Vicissitudes (1977) by Jean Dubuffet, Unicorn (1970) by Rebecca Horn and Arc 8 (1963) by Hideko Fukushima.

Lens Based Media Day 2: The Adventures Of Mr. Ecoman

Today was very fun. I think I might choose Animation as my main pathway. Jack, Maria and Rachel helped in the making of these respectively.

Lens Based Media Day 1: Extreme Close-Ups

Viewfinder game is strong, methinks.

Lens Based Media Day 1

A drawing that I did this morning, based on a very famous photo of mine (well, famous to me anyway). Made with ProMarkers and Manga Dual Brush Pens.

My Photography

Because we have Lens Based Media next week, I thought it would be appropriate if I shared with you all some of my own photos. This is only about 1/4 of what I'm bringing in for Monday (yes, I do have 20 photos just like Mr Hooper told us to).
